For 33 years, southern Colorado residents tuning in to KOAA’s nightly broadcast heard the words, “And here’s Lee Douglas with sports.” Those tuning in after the Super Bowl Feb. 5 heard something much different. That evening, viewers were met with the sad news that their sportscaster had died suddenly from kidney failure Saturday night, Feb. 4.
The men’s basketball game between CSU-Pueblo and Adams State College Feb. 11, ended in slow motion. Falling backwards, Pack senior Ty Trahern threw up a desperate three-point shot in double-overtime. With no time left on the clock, he watched it go through the basket and the crowd watched as CSU-Pueblo won the game 99-98.
The place burned down from a freak grease fire June 6, 20111, putting the eatery and bar out of commission. However, what was originally supposed to take a couple months to renovate turned out to take seven because of certain building options. Andy McCarthy’s Sports Bar and Grill opened its doors to the public again Nov. 11, 2011.
