fred_claus.jpgVince Vaughn stars as Fred Claus, the older brother of Santa Claus, who is given the opportunity to redeem himself during the Christmas season.

Fred Claus has spent his whole life trying to live up to his younger brother Nicholas, better known as Santa, but has spent his most recent years as a repo-man.  He has spent his days stealing items that he has been commissioned to repossess and it has landed him in jail.

His brother Nicholas Claus, played by Paul Giamatti, has agreed to bail him out if he repays him by working at the North Pole making toys for Christmas.
As for the movie itself, the funniest part was the beginning, after that it just seems to drag on. I would wait until it comes out on video.
Vince Vaughn definitely did not bring his A-game to this role. I have definitely seen better work from him.  If they wanted Fred Claus to be funnier they should have made him a lot meaner.
The chemistry between Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti was good and they played off each other well. However, both men could have put more effort into their roles.
The script was slow moving and never really picked up. The dialogue was corny and full of clichés and the plot was most definitely predictable.
If you want to watch a modern Christmas movie, my suggestion would be to pop a bowl of popcorn, make some hot chocolate and put in “Elf.” Fred Clause tried to compete but failed miserably.
If I had to rate it, over all I would give it a five out of 10. One being the worst and 10 being the best.

Fred Claus is rated PG and is playing at Tinseltown.
