Take Action, Make Art, Design a Computer

MTV and HP have announced a global design competition to create graphics for a special edition HP notebook PC.

The contest, “Take Action, Make Art,” encourages entrants to submit ideas they are passionate about, whether it relates to fashion, music, peace or the environment.

The winning design will be selected by a panel consisting of members of the MTV creative team, advertising experts from Goodby, Silverstein and Partners and Shaun White snowboarding Olympic gold medal winner featured in HP’s “The computer is personal again” marketing campaign.

Contestants can submit their designs along with a brief explanation at www.mtv-tama.com until Oct. 17. Web site visitors can also view submitted designs and vote for their favorites.

“We are challenging youths to develop something more than just cool, hip designs,” said David Roman, vice president, marketing communications, Personal Systems Group, HP.  “Imagine that your design is a positive thought, a belief, a message you want to broadcast to the world.  We want young people to show us what is personal to them by incorporating that thought into the design itself.”

The winner will be invited to attend the MTV Europe Music Awards in Munich, Germany, where his or her design will be showcased.

The winner will also visit several HP sites to see the design in the development process.

The notebook with the winning design is expected to be available to consumers worldwide in March 2008.  Runners-up will have their designs made into adhesive notebook “skins” available to consumers around the world.
