The importance of taking time to complete the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) is to help build student awareness on campus.
“If only a few students respond then the report is not accurate,” said Erin Frew, interim assistant provost for assessment and student learning on the Colorado State University-Pueblo campus.

Fiction writer and poet captivates crowd at latest SoCo event
Renowned fiction writer and poet, Steven Wingate, read some of his work during the third Southern Colorado Reading Series event on March 9 at Colorado State University-Pueblo.
Wingate, a self-proclaimed “genre hopper,” shared both old and new poetry, as well as some excerpts from his award-winning book, “Wifeshopping,” in the Cottonwood Room, in the Occhiato University Center. More than 25 people attended the event.

2010 ASG election campaigns begin
The 2010 Associated Students’ Government election campaigns kick off today, March 15.
Write-in packets are available at Student Life in the Occhiato University Center Suite 003.
The online polls open Monday, April 5, at 8 a.m. and close Wednesday, April 7, at 4 p.m. The winning candidate’s names will be posted Thursday, April 8.

Author brings attention to sensitive subjects while sharing a reading of her newest publication
Maria Meléndez, editor and publisher for the literary magazine Pilgrimage, read from her newest publication “Flexible Bones,” on Feb. 11 in the Cottonwood Room of the Occhiato University Center at CSU-Pueblo.
Southern Colorado Reading Series Coordinator, Juan Morales announced that the shipment of Meléndez’s book was received Feb. 10, just in time for Meléndez’s reading.

Blood Drive gives CSU-Pueblo a Chance to Save Lives
A blood drive, which invited students, faculty and staff to donate blood for use in Colorado hospitals, was held in the Occhiato University Center’s Heartwell Lounge at Colorado State University-Pueblo on Thursday, Jan. 28.
The Bonfils Blood Center blood drive was from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and had three beds that remained filled throughout the day, as 30 donors gave blood. Each donor gave 470 milliliters of blood for a total of about 30 pints donated, according to Rudy Sosa, regional manager of Bonfils.

CSU-Pueblo commencement speaker announced
About 950 Colorado State University-Pueblo students are expected to participate in the spring 2010 graduation commencement ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, May 1 at the Colorado State Fair Events Center.
Guest speaker will be A. J. Rhodes, director of Strategy and Marketing at Disney Interactive Media Group, West Hollywood, Calif. said Cora Zaletel, executive director of External Affairs at CSU-Pueblo.

Guest Speaker for the Women’s Leadership Institute gives her advice on how to become a woman of leadership
About 100 female students and women from the Pueblo community spent the morning of Feb. 19, listening to a speech by a woman known as a leader in Congress at Colorado State University-Pueblo’s Women’s Leadership Institute.
Sarah Weddington, who has received much recognition for her work, including the 2006 International Athena Award, was the keynote speaker at the institute.

Diversity Resource Center Shines Light on Micro-Inequities
Twenty-First Century Discrimination: Micro-Inequities, a workshop focused on combating discriminatory behaviors, was held by the Diversity Resource Center Monday, Feb. 22, at Colorado State University-Pueblo.
Micro-inequities, or subtle discriminations, are an annoyance as well as a discouraging factor in school, work and social lives, said LaNeeca Williams, director of CSU-Pueblo’s Diversity Resource Center.

Students can network with employers at Career Fair
A Career Fair, designed to give students an opportunity to meet and network with employers from local, regional and national companies, will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, in the Occhiato University Center Ballroom at Colorado State University-Pueblo.
More than 45 employers are scheduled to participate in the event, according to Michelle Gjerde, director of the CSU-Pueblo Career Center. Students will get to explore and learn about careers in their area of interest, and seek out internships and job opportunities, Gjerde said.
