Maestro Francesc de Paula Soler, classical guitarist from Barcelona, Spain, will be at CSU-Pueblo on Oct. 8 and 9, where he will present a lecture and a recital in the Hasan School of Business Auditorium.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Soler’s visit on campus is sponsored by the Office of the Provost, the Dean’s Office of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Department of English and Foreign Languages, Spain’s Foreign Cultural Cooperation and the Embassy of Spain in Washington.

Soler’s lecture, “Literatura y música hispana a través de la historia,” will begin at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 8.  His performance at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9, will include works from the Spanish and Latin American guitar as well as jazz, swing, blues, be-bop and contemporary music.

Soler started his musical studies at the age of six where he began his piano studies. At age 11 he began to study guitar and received highest honors in the prestigious Conservatorio Superior de Música of Barcelona, Spain.

Later, he continued his postgraduate work with Andrés Segovia and also received guitar orientations from Spanish guitarist Narciso Yepes, as well as from many other Latin American guitarists.

Several recognized composers have written guitar works and concerts specifically for Soler. He has broadcasted for radio and TV stations in both Europe and the United States.

He was chosen by GHS Strings Corporation for international promotion. Known as “The Poet of the Guitar,” Soler’s wide international activity as a performer has brought critics to hail him as one of the most notable names of the guitar world.
