Alcohol Awareness on CSU-Pueblo campus

September 18th, 2007 by Eric Salagovic

Alcohol awareness is important for new students attending CSU-Pueblo this semester to prevent potentially criminal or dangerous situations.

The CSU-Pueblo student conduct code, which is printed in the student handbook, includes the guidelines for alcohol use on campus, and reads as follows: the use, possession, manufacturing or distribution of alcoholic beverages is prohibited unless expressly permitted by law or university policy. Alcoholic beverages may not be used by, possessed by or distributed to any person under 21 years of age. Public intoxication is not permitted on university property.

This means that unless a CSU-Pueblo sponsored event is serving alcohol, like the Fourth of July fireworks display, for example, drinking and possession of alcohol on campus is strictly prohibited at all times.

This includes students over 21 who live on school premises.

If a violation of the policy occurs, disciplinary actions may be instituted against the student by the university, regardless of or in addition to any civil or criminal charges that may occur. These actions range from warnings to expulsion from the school.

All violations will be processed by the Dean of Student Life and Development, Zav Dadabhoy in cooperation with the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office. A full document detailing police policies and statistics is available from the police upon request. Contact (719) 549-2373.

Counseling is available to those who think they may have a problem with alcohol, or if they know someone who does, at the CSU-Pueblo counseling center. It’s a free service available to all regularly enrolled students, and visits are kept confidential and separate from academic records.

The counseling center is located in the basement of the Occhiato University Center, and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. The office can be reached at (719) 549-2859.

For more information and other campus policies refer to the student conduct code, available in the student life handbook or online at:
