Director of planning and construction hired

A local architect with more than 30 years of experience on projects in Southern Colorado will manage all construction and facility maintenance projects at CSU-Pueblo beginning Nov. 1.

As the new Director of Planning and Construction John Barnosky, formerly vice president of HGF Architects, Inc., will act as a liaison between architects and engineers, contractors and university staff on a variety of campus projects.

He will be responsible for the completion of necessary state building program plans for capital construction projects and will create short and long-term schedules for preventative maintenance repair of buildings, grounds and utilities as well as long-term facility, infrastructure and framework planning for the campus.

“I’m looking forward to contributing my experience to the challenging list of projects coming up at the University,” Barnosky said.

Currently, the university has in progress a $12.6 million renovation and expansion to Massari Arena and the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation building, construction of a $11.6 million Student Recreation Center and management participation in construction of a $13 million new track, football field and athletic facility.

Upcoming projects include construction of new student housing and renovation and expansion of the university library, the Occhiato University Center and the Belmont Residence Hall.

“We feel extremely fortunate to be gaining John’s expertise and skills at a time when the campus landscape is in the midst of significant change,” said Director of Facilities Management Craig Cason.

Barnosky has been a member of HGF Architects Inc. since 1967, where he has served as principal architect for programming, design, production and construction contract administration.

His career began as a draftsman/delineator with Hurtig and Gardner Architects while a student at the University of Colorado, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture in 1970.

Since then he has been involved in all aspects of the profession from programming and cost estimating to design, construction, contract administration and warranty inspections.

Key local projects include capital need assessments for Pueblo School District 70 and Pueblo City Schools, Historic Arkansas River Project studies and Affordable Housing/Tax Credit Projects.

As a long-time design professional in private practice, he has been retained as an expert witness or consultant to advise owners and their legal counsel on a variety of issues, including roofing, architectural design conformance, contracting methods and construction contract compliance.
