Women’s soccer team loses season opener

CSU-Pueblo women’s soccer team suffered a 4-1 loss Sept. 2, to the Northern State Wolves.

The season opener started off with many shots taken by the ThunderWolves’ offense. Northern State’s Rachel Goslinga scored the first goal against CSU-Pueblo’s defense.

The ThunderWolves struggled with Northern State’s defense but toward the middle of the first period, senior Gabby Gonzales was able to make it through to score CSU-Pueblo’s only goal of the night, after receiving a pass from freshman Brittany Kliesen.

The ThunderWolves’ defense worked hard to stop Northern State’s offense at the end of the first period but the Wolves scored two more goals by Kachirha Tugas and Rachel Goslinga, respectively.  The first half ended with Northern State taking eight shots at the goal and CSU-Pueblo taking 15.

The second half started off slow but the ThunderWolves continued to keep their defense strong.  However, it wasn’t strong enough as Northern State’s Ashley Elliot put one in to bump the score up 4-1. The game ended with CSU-Pueblo sending 21 shots to the goal and Northern State sending 19. Freshman goalkeeper, Erin Stephens had eight saves for the evening.
