New women’s soccer coach comes to campus
September 19th, 2007 by Alycia HarperCSU-Pueblo women’s soccer team has a new coach this season. Dave Morris joins the coaching staff after Roy Stanley, the former coach, switched over to solely coaching the boys’ team.
Morris previously coached at division III Wisconsin-Stout before moving to Wisconsin-Green Bay. The Fighting Phoenix of Wisconsin are a division I women’s team. There, he was responsible for goalkeepers and defense.
Morris went to Pueblo for his next endeavor. He was announced as the new coach on June 18, 2007.
“It was a great opportunity, I wanted to be a head coach again,” Morris said.
As for the game play, the new coach believes in versatility. “We expect our players to be able to play different styles and be able to transition easily from one to the next,” Morris said after an 0-3 loss to Regis on Sunday.
Boasting five seniors, the transition has been easier for Coach Morris. “We have a good group of people all the way through, they are working hard,” Morris said. He also has Assistant Coach Samantha Hitchcook.
The team’s overall record so far is 4-4, making them .500 overall. The next home game is Sept. 28 at 2:30 p.m. against New Mexico Highlands.
Looking to the future, Morris plans to continue what has been working for the team so far.
“We are going to compete, and see how it goes, that’s all you can do,” he said.
