Thunderwolves’ offensive, defensive coordinators hired
August 28th, 2007 by Anthony SandstromJoe Folda, Colorado State University-Pueblo Director of Athletics, is proud to announce the hiring of Michael Moschetti and Hunter Hughes as offensive and defensive coordinators, respectively, for the ThunderWolves’ football squad.
“We are extremely excited to add two experienced coaches of the caliber of Mike and Hunter to our football program,” Folda said.
Moschetti, a former starting quarterback for University of Colorado who led the Buffs to wins in the 1998 Aloha Bowl and 1999 Insight.Com Bowl, has been the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. since 2005.
Moschetti also honed his coaching experience as a student assistant at the University of Colorado, assisting with the team’s quarterbacks during the 2000 season. Moschetti received his Bachelor’s degree in ethnic studies from the University of Colorado in 2003.
“Mike will certainly be an asset in our recruiting efforts in the west, as well as offer us some great ideas on the offensive side of the football,” CSU-Pueblo Head Coach John Wristen said.
Hughes rose through the ranks as a coaching assistant with two of the most prestigious Division I football programs in the country, University of Colorado and the University of Tennessee.
With the University of Colorado, Hughes was a defensive graduate assistant from 2003-2006, assisting in coaching various defensive positions as well as assisting in recruiting prospective CU students east of the Mississippi River.
With the University of Tennessee, Hughes also served as a defensive graduate assistant, focusing chiefly on linebackers and defensive backs.
Hughes also has eight years of coaching experience at the high school level, serving as the assistant head coach at Brentwood (Tenn.) High School from 1997-2002, and as defensive coordinator at Overton (Tenn.) High School from 1994-1997. In 2002, while serving as special teams coordinator, Brentwood won the Tennessee 5A State Championship.
Hughes received his Master’s in physical education and sport management from Middle Tennessee State University in 2001.
“Hunter will be a key to our recruiting, especially in the midwest and south, and offers a wealth of experience with our defense,” Wristen said.
“The addition of both Mike and Hunter will allow the CSU-Pueblo football program to hit the ground running,” Wristen continued.
CSU-Pueblo’s football program was cut in 1985 as part of a campus-wide reorganization plan. The ThunderWolves’ football program, alongside wrestling and women’s track and field, have been reinstated and will begin play in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in the fall of 2008.
