Mike Medina, who served in the TRiO Office at CSU-Pueblo and whose outgoing personality made him popular with faculty, staff and students, died Monday.
Medina joined CSU-Pueblo in 1988 as a program counselor for the university’s Upward Bound program. From 1993 to 1995 he served as director of the Southern Colorado Educational Opportunity Center and in late 1995 he took over as interim director of Upward Bound. He was later named director and served in that position until his retirement in 2009. Later that year he returned to the university where he served as an adjunct faculty member until September 2010.

In a campus e-mail, Cora Zaletel, the executive director for External Affairs at CSU-Pueblo, said Medina touched many lives while serving with the TRIO program. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, March 25 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2827 Lakeview Ave.
