Conversation 2007 discussion held on campus
State Rep. Buffie McFayden, Democrat of Pueblo West, hosted the Conversation 2007 meeting at CSU-Pueblo on Nov.8. The discussion focused on the needs and responsibilities of students, families, communities and educators.
“These meetings will be held throughout the state, to gather ideas for educational improvements,” Denver facilitator Rita Schweitz said.
All information gathered throughout 2007 will be put together and presented to Gov. Bill Ritter for the P-20 Council. The P-20 Council reviews education for preschool through graduate school.
A review of the meeting recommendations can be accessed at http://www.conversation2007.org/. The P-20 Council plans to keep the public informed of each meeting by posting to the Web site.
The goals of Conversation 2007 is to identify common elements and understanding of the current education system, to determine what Coloradoans expect to receive from education levels preschool through graduate school, and to provide information on the expectations for education through the P-20 Council, state legislators, educators and other policy makers.
Mark Hudson, chairman of the CSU-Pueblo Music Department, headed the Nov. 8 meeting on campus. Hudson was appointed by Gov. Ritter’s Graduation Guideline Committee to review the educational system. Hudson said he was pleased with the attendance which included State Sen. Abel Tapia, Democrat of Pueblo, community leaders, parents, students and educators from both the high school and college levels.
Anyone interested in participating in Conversation 2007 may do so by attending any of the meetings which will be held throughout Colorado. The meeting schedule is posted at http://www.conversation2007.org/.
An online forum is also available for anyone to participate in the discussions.
